You've bin gone for two long years
Still can't get your voice out of my ears
Freedom, have you found no fear?
Still a spot in my heart for you, my dear.
Why does life go on
When your love is gone?
Where has the laughter gone?
Now life is a lonely song
Tellin' me about him the worst thing you could do
And I can hide it, I'm swallowed in blue
Despite what you put me through
I still love you
Why does life go on
When your love is gone?
Where has the laughter gone?
Now life is a lonely song
Wouldn't you know... Wouldn't you know
You'd lighten your load and leave me alone
Ack well wouldn't you know
Why does life go on
When your love is gone?
Where has the laughter gone?
Now life is a lonely song
Now that you realise what's been done
Your head or your heart or your gut says run
You should be careful who you shout at
Who you shun cus
We all need a friend to cry on
We all need a friend to cry on
Something needs to be addressed inside
Ah but you put the blame on them so you can hide
You should be careful confrontin' who you confide in when
You don't have a leg to stand on
We all need a friend to cry on
about
This is my debut release - I'd like to share some thanks and some thoughts.
Thank you to everyone I’ve ever made music with, my life has been full of experiences with excellent musicians and songwriters, our neck of the woods is teeming with talent. I’m eternally grateful for every opportunity. Thanks also to all the great bars and venues in Belfast and throughout the country who continue to support live music and local musicians.Thank you to all my family present and absent. I’d like to thank Lyndon Stephens for being a great partner to my Mum and a stepdad to my wee sister. He was very passionate about his work and about music, he did what he did for the right reasons.
Big thanks to everyone who’s helping my music come into existence and also to my friends who have been there for me in shitty times. Thank you to some of my musical heroes and influences who help me get through this life, I wouldn’t be making music without them… Erykah Badu, Joni Mitchell, D’angelo, Jimi Hendrix, Charlie Parker, Art Blakey, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, Tom Petty, Jackson Browne, Donal Scullion, Albert King, Chick Corea, Nile Rodgers, Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, Gil Scott-Heron… To name just a few…
I’m especially grateful for Black American Music. It’s a real privilege to have the opportunity to go out gigging and to celebrate the music of some of my heroes. The artists I love often create in the face of adversity and shed much needed light and wisdom into our lives, bringing us all closer together. In this strangely divided world I think it’s important to remember that element of humanity in art. There is a massive amount of oppression and racism going on today however sheltered we may be from it. We all have a part to play in undoing and unlearning the prejudices our society teaches if we want to progress together. I hope that moving forward we can all cherish our dearest in this life and celebrate the music that unites us all under the sun.
Ben.
